The exhilarating triumph of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang esports at the recently concluded M5 World Championship in the Philippines appears poised to be overshadowed in the coming months. This anticipation stems from the inclusion of MLBB as a featured game in the highly anticipated esports event, Games of the Future 2024 in Russia, boasting a staggering prize pool.
As detailed on the official website, GoF 2024 has been heralded as an event seamlessly blending physical and digital challenges, set to unfold across major Russian city, Kazan. From February 19 to March 2, 2024, spectators are in for a treat with a slew of exhilarating video game-based tournaments.
Among the featured competitions are virtual reality showdowns, alongside popular esports titles like Dota 2, CSGO 2, Warface, MLBB and speedrun contests showcasing classic games. Notably, MLBB stands out as the sole mobile game slated for inclusion.
In the MLBB arena, a total of 16 teams are primed to enter the fray during the group stage, comprising victors from the Phygital Games competition and specially invited teams from various regions. This elite group will battle it out from February 26 to March 2, 2024, vying for a monumental total prize pool of 1 million US dollars – a pinnacle in the history of MLBB competitions.
As of the present moment, the participating teams beyond Team Lilgun, Deus Vult, and Rose Noire – all securing their spots through the preceding Phygital Games championship – remain undisclosed. However, the intrigue surrounding the MLBB competition at GoF 2024 is heightened, courtesy of the post by Onic Esports’ assistant coach, Adi “Adi” Asyauri. He hinted at the event’s allure, driven by the participation of M5 teams.
Should this speculation hold true, GoF 2024 could emerge as the redemption stage for Adi and Onic Esports. Their previous heart-wrenching loss to AP Bren in the M5 grand finals could potentially find resolution, as the latter not only thwarted a potential reverse sweep against the Indonesian squad but also etched their name in history as the first team to secure a two-time M Championship title.
