Tekken 7 Fights its Way to the Top

Despite criticisms from many players, Tekken 7 has gone on to break a series record and sell 10 million copies, more than any other instalment.

On December 11, Game Director Katsuhiro Harada announced the milestone and shared some artwork to commemorate the occasion.

But despite the record-breaking feat, this seventh edition did fall short of expectations.

Players criticised the game’s lack of customisation and lacklustre story mode – with some even calling it the messiest storytelling of the entire franchise.

Thankfully, players foresee the next instalment, Tekken 8, being better with greater development and a bigger budget.

The teaser trailer of the game was already shown at The Game Awards earlier this month.

Surpassing 10 million copies sold has meant that Tekken 7 is now the sixth best-selling fighting game of all time, only behind enormous blockbusters like Super Smash Bros, Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat.

With such success from Tekken 7, Tekken 8 has some huge shoes to fill. How will it fare? Will it knock Tekken 7’s record out of the park? We can only wait to find out.
