Sojourn Downgraded Due To Fan Reaction

They hate to see a girlboss winning.

Season 2 of Overwatch 2 just went live on December 6. With this fresh rollout came a whole bunch of new changes in characters and settings, including the nerfing of high-powered Damage hero Sojourn.

Initially, Sojourn dominated leaderboards in Season 1. She was able to deal large amounts of damage to opponents and had strong favourable abilities with mobility and crowd control. She also has a powerful primary weapon, the Railgun, which rapidly fires projectiles generating energy on impact with opponents, dealing 10 damage per shot with a firing rate of 14 rounds per second.

However, the second season has come around with some modifications to make her less powerful. Sojourn’s Railgun energy build-up now depletes after five seconds instead of the previous eight seconds. The secondary fire projectile also has a 1.5x critical damage multiplier, down from a 2x multiplier. Her secondary weapon also has a damage fall-off range of 40 meters instead of 70. However, she did also get some small upgrades. Her primary fire damage per-projectile has been upped from nine to 10 and her ultimate Overclock energy charge rate has increased by a whole 20 percent.

While these changes serve to balance Sojourn out with other heroes, making her more evenly matched with others, they actually don’t make a huge amount of difference. Jay3, a Twitch streamer and game content creator with over 400k followers, noted that Sojourn’s damage output is still consistently strong, so this “downgrade” might not cost the hero her superior placement in the Overwatch 2 meta.

These changes also came from previous fan feedback that Sojourn was too unbalanced.

It’s nice to see that Blizzard Entertainment is taking feedback from fans. Hopefully, they keep this up to consistently improve the game the way the fans need it to.
