Doomsday Comes to Singapore in Resident Evil 9, Insider Claims

As Capcom continues to push the boundaries of its iconic Resident Evil franchise, venturing from the bustling streets of the United States and Europe to the exotic landscapes of Africa and modern China, it seems they’ve set their sights on a thrilling new locale for the next installment of this gripping saga: Southeast Asia.

In a recent bombshell drop, the infamous gaming informant ‘Dusk Golem’ spilled the beans on Capcom’s next RE project. This insider had already hinted at the game sporting an expansive open-world setup, with a slated release window just before the end of January 2025.

Delving deeper into the revelation, DG highlighted a striking synchronization between the production timelines of RE9 and its predecessor, RE Village (RE8), alongside the monumental undertaking of the Resident Evil 4 remake dating back to 2018. This nugget fuels rampant speculation that RE9 might not be a direct sequel to Village, although DG remains hopeful that it will serve as a climactic chapter in Ethan Winter’s saga.

However, what really sets tongues wagging is DG’s response to an eager query from one of his followers regarding the rumored Southeast Asian locale for RE9. Quickly, DG responded that Capcom would maintain the rural aesthetics from the previous game but relocating it to “an island in the Southeast Asia Sea inspired by Singapore.”

These leaks regarding RE9’s location certainly raised eyebrows for a moment, as Singapore does not resemble countryside by any means. However, the rural setting mentioned could refer to old Singapore, known as Temasek. Additionally, there is a possibility that this rumor actually refers to neighboring countries like Indonesia, Thailand, or Vietnam, which fit more with such characteristics.

Nevertheless, seasoned gamers know to take such tidbits with a grain of salt until officially confirmed. DG’s past track record with RE leaks has been somewhat dicey, so until Capcom’s development journey mirrors the seamless development of the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 4 remake, we’ll likely be left in the dark regarding RE9’s finer details.
