Team Lunatix has found itself in hot water once more for recent financial violations against their partner, Blacklist International, in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Development League in Philippines.
Following an investigation into the financial situation of their second team, Blacklist Lunatix, which led to their dismal performance, Blacklist International stated that they would immediately cease their partnership with Team Lunatix. Starting today, they will be directly managing their MDL squad until the end of MDL PH Season 2.
“After going through an internal investigation, Blacklist International has decided to terminate our partnership with the Lunatix organization, effective immediately,” wrote Blacklist. “We will also be taking over the management of the MDL team from today until the end of the season. We hope you’ll support Blacklist Academy throughout the rest of their MDL season.”
Additionally, the team manager, Eviann Balquin, confessed that the players were stressed during the competition since they didn’t have a reliable internet connection or food at base camp, and they still haven’t been paid. He and the other squad leaders had to spend their own money to provide their players with what they needed to keep them motivated.
Blacklist International management is still deciding whether they will take urgent legal action to settle this issue with Lunatix. Nevertheless, the MDL PH committee made it clear they are willing to help them in finding the best solution and ensuring that any violations that happen in the league will be punished.
“We are aware of the situation concerning Blacklist Lunatix, and are currently investigating this issue. All teams are encouraged to prioritise player welfare to ensure that they are given the best platform to pursue professional esports growth.” MDL PH stated. “MDL Philippines is a development league that seeks to provide a safe space and opportunity for players to thrive, and we are reaching out to the affected parties accordingly.”
This is not Lunatix’s first run-in with the rules in the MLBB competitive scene. Previously, the Malaysian team was in the news because of issues with two Burmese veterans, Kyaw “Zippy” Bo and Hein “Kid” Thu, over their leftover pay and ticket reimbursements, which had not been paid after several months. Both of them were also concerned about their base camp in Malaysia, which they thought was improper and didn’t give them enough privacy. The MPL Malaysia Committee then gave a warning to the team and required them to pay the players according to the contract.
