Controversy over crypto currency is not new, even in the gaming industry. Crypto betting has been a problem for games and gaming platforms such as League of Legends and Twitch. But most recently, Valorant has been the latest to find itself with crypto problems.
The Riot Games game has seen a spike in crypto betting leading to game throwing. Many throwers would bet on streamers losing while playing on their team. They will then intentionally lose the game to receive the monetary prize.
Game throwers not only make playing the game infinitely more frustrating, it also causes the loss of ranking that so many have worked hard for. Understandably, some players have turned to Twitter to voice their annoyance.
Crypto betting and game throwing have become such a huge problem that professional players, such as ShahZaM, FNS, Tarik and TenZ, have started to make their frustrations known online. Tarik even stated that he has “had at least 10 games (in the last month) with an obvious thrower.”
Some of them have even started discussing plans to set up their own leagues to avoid throwers altogether.
As of now, Riot Games have yet to make a statement on this issue but we expect them to release one soon, before the problem gets too out of hand.
