Team RRQ has officially revealed their first new Valorant team member for the next competitive season. In an unexpected move, they signed Park “Estrella” Gun from South Korea, who became a free agent last month.
Two days earlier, they announced that Emmanuel “Emman” Morales was leaving the squad and hinted that they would sign a new replacement soon. Although names such as Gary “Blazek1ng” Dastin and Kim “t3xture” Na-ra emerged on the transfer news, they decided to up the ante and go straight for Estrella.
Given their terrible performance in the VCT Pacific League and Last Chance Qualifier a few months ago, their lineup adjustment was clearly overdue. Even though they showed some good fight in numerous games, their final results were not enough to qualify them for the two major tournaments of the season, the Masters in Tokyo and the Champions in Los Angeles.
So far, the addition of the 24-year-old to the club has received excellent feedback from fans and its coaching team, particularly head coach Marthinus “Ewok” Walt, who highly rated the South Korean. And it’s not surprising given that the former DPlus in-game leader was praised for his shotcalling and leadership during the VCT Challengers: Korea Split series a few months ago.
Estrella is expected to fill the initiator role for the next season, like he did on his previous team. However, knowing his skill set, it is possible that the coach may set him up to a new position and replace Saibani “fl1pzjder” Rahmad, who previously served as in-game leader for the team.
Going forward, Estrella is unlikely to be their sole transfer goal this season, as sources indicate that they intend to recruit another new player and analyst from outside Indonesia in the near future. Depending on what happens during the current transfer window, there is a chance that they may land a big name from another franchise team.
