The sensational Paper Rex just rocked the VCT world again by totally owning T1 in the semi-finals of VCT Pacific Kickoff 2024 last evening, where they deployed a crazy move using a triple duelist tactic which revolved around its trio, Ilya “something” Petrov, Cahya “Monyet” Nugroho, and Jason “f0rsaken” Susanto.
The Singaporean team came under pressure from T1 in the first game, but they didn’t let up on their ‘wgaming’ mentality and continued to play aggressively. Eventually, they clinched a spectacular comeback, rising up from 8-4 to 16-14 and winning the game.
Then, in the second game, PRX shocked everyone with their triple duelist lineup including Jett, Raze, and Yoru. Although considered a risky composition, they dominated the match without breaking a sweat. In 41 minutes, PRX concluded the second game with a final score of 13-6, with f0rsaken being named MVP of the game.
Talking about their wild strategy, f0rsaken, who beat his brother Kevin “xccurate” Susanto in the ‘Susanto Derby,’ spilled the beans in the post-match interview. They had been practicing this setup for a week straight, and it was all because of update patch 8.0.1 that made them switch things up.
“Yeah, we just switched it up a week ago, after Skye got nerfed. It was pretty bad when we tried it at first, but then we went for the triple duelist, and it surprisingly worked out. We could just go all out wgaming every round!” he revealed.
This isn’t actually the first time PRX pulled such a stunt. Back in May 2022 during the group stage of VCT Malaysia and Singapore Stage 2, they rolled out a triple duelist setup with Yoru, Phoenix, and Raze, crushing Blitz Esports and taking the series 2-0.
PRX still has one more match this afternoon against the unexpected contenders Gen G to secure the Pacific Kickoff title. Win or lose, they’ve already snagged a spot for Masters Madrid starting on March 14. Let’s see what other surprises they’ve got in store!
