Vampire Esports, Thailand’s PUBG Mobile powerhouse squad, won the PUBGM World Invitational 2023 competition in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia last night, which was their second consecutive victory in the PMWI tournament.
Vampire Esports displayed a remarkable performance throughout the All-Stars stage, winning with a score of 187 points and 4 WWCDs. Vampire’s tactical excellence made it tough for them to be eliminated from the top four during the All-Stars competition, despite some surprises from other favorites such as Gaimin Gladiators, A7, and Dplus.
However, unexpectedly, they lagged on the first day of the Main Tournament on July 14th. They finished with a total of 77 points after struggling to score WWCDs in the last round of matchday 1 and finishing outside the top four three times in six games. Despite finishing first, teams like Alter Ego Ares, A7, and Six Two Eight were trailing close behind them.
Vampire showed significant improvement on matchday two, as ace Nattawut “TonyK” Muensa began to play aggressively, taking his team to the top in the second and third rounds on Erangel. They retained their lead in the rankings with 165 points on that day, widening the gap between second-placed Six Two Eight (114 points) and third-placed A7 (93 points).
The point deficit expanded on the third day, which also happened to be the last day of PMWI 2023. Despite being behind in the first three rounds, the other competing teams behind Vampire were unable to sustain their consistency. They subsequently finished the remaining three rounds with one WWCD and two runners-up positions. Vampire eventually won the PMWI 2023 with a total of 227 points and 4 WWCDs, which is an 89-point difference between them and the runner-up, the largest point difference in the PMWI tournament so far.
The victory marked Vampire’s second following their thrilling win in PMWI in the same country last year. They will take home the $432,500 grand prize as well as the MVP award for TonyK, who was crowned the top fragger in the tournament. Vampire’s outstanding performance should serve as a heads-up to other SEA teams who will face them in the PMSL SEA next month.
