In a surprising turn of events, Echo’s quest to achieve a historic winning streak in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang competition finally came to an end when they faced one of this season’s underdogs, RSG Philippines, in week five of the MLBB Pro League Philippines Season 12.
Through the brilliance of their young talents, Dylan “Light” Catipon and John “Irrad” Abarquez, the Filipino giant killers snapped Echo’s 11-game winning streak with a 2-0 sweep. Light brought the Raiders to victory in a tense 24-minute battle in game 1, while Irrad handed the Purple Orca a heavy defeat in game 2.
The victory was crucial, especially considering their earlier slip against Evos Minana. They now have 20 points, based on a 7-5 win-loss record, securing them a playoff spot in third place. However, it’s still not enough to guarantee them an upper bracket spot, as they still have a fixture against Smart Omega in the coming days.
On the other hand, Echo is still at the top of the leaderboard and has already secured an upper bracket spot in the playoffs with 29 points after 11 wins and one defeat. Following their defeat against RSG, they quickly bounced back and secured a convincing victory against Smart Omega and TNC Pro Team by the end of week five.
Their 11-game winning streak is undoubtedly a great achievement in their MPL PH adventure thus far. Nevertheless, it wasn’t enough to break the existing record, as Blacklist International had previously achieved the same feat in 2021 during MPL PH S7.
Interestingly, Echo has the potential to become this season’s champions, considering their track record is nearly identical to Blacklist’s during that season. Speaking of Blacklist International, they have been struggling since week 2 but still managed to retain their spot in the top four after their victory this week.
Blacklist International returned the favor to ONIC Philippines as they swept the Yellow Hedgehog 2-0 to secure playoffs. Stephen “Sensui” Castillo and Kenneth “Kenn” Barro showed up and brought Blacklist their seventh victory out of 19 games. But the Blacklist Agents need to be at their best for their last two games, against TNC Predator and AP Bren, to make sure they get a spot in the upper bracket.
