The recent stir surrounding comments made by Ian “FwydChckn” Hohl, star player of MLBB’s Gaimin Gladiators, has ignited a fervent discussion within the MPL PH community for days. And this discourse has not only drawn empathy from fellow professionals but has also shed light on a broader issue within the league.
During a recent live streaming session on his social media platform, Blacklist International’s icon, Johnmar “OHMYV33NUS” Villaluna, reflected on a past incident involving the MPL PH production team. V33NUS recalled a moment from two seasons prior when his words were misconstrued, necessitating clarification through Blacklist’s management.
V33NUS voiced his solidarity with Fwyd, highlighting a recurrent pattern of misrepresentation by the MPL PH production. “I feel him. He said they manipulated it. Did you know that this also happened during MPL PH S10 or S11? Can you still remember what I said during M3?” V33NUS remarked.
“It’s like the MPL PH production restated my statement wherein I said that ‘no team can beat us twice.’ What I actually said was ‘no one has beaten us for 2 consecutive times yet.’ MPL PH really misquoted my statement that time!”
In agreement with Fwyd’s sentiments, V33NUS opined that the actions of the MPL PH production team are aimed at fabricating sensational narratives to capture the interest of viewers outside the Philippines. He argued that the good old trash-talking appeal among players has waned, compelling the production team to explore alternative ways in raising the league’s popularity.
“You know guys, I think he said ‘MPL PH is a boring scene’ because during the previous seasons they let players taunt each other for the hype. They were like trash talk to this, trash talk to that.”
“But it seems like it didn’t work because even the players are already scared to intimidate each other. I think because they knew that it was not going to help their careers, that’s why you don’t see any ML players trash talking their opponents.”
Intriguingly, trash talk has emerged as a captivating aspect outside the confines of MPL PH competition. Players in the MPL ID and MY circuits have managed to captivate audiences through their heated exchanges, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the proceedings.
