Moonton Indonesia has publicly stated its stand on the cases filed by various whistleblowers relating to online gambling promotions carried out by several pro Mobile Legends: Bang Bang players in Indonesia.
Moonton Indonesia’s PR and Communications Manager, Azwin Nugraha, stated this morning that they had read the case and strongly opposed all sorts of illegal activities, including online gambling, which had a bad influence on Indonesian gaming community.
“Moonton Games and MPL ID are strongly against online gambling and other activities that affect young people and Indonesian society as a whole. It is very clear in our rules that players and teams are not allowed to do anything illegal, such as online gaming. We do not support the promotion or spread of online gambling activities by streamers or content creators, either directly or indirectly,” he said.
To prevent similar behavior in the future, he stated that Moonton is planning to host a special workshop to educate MLBB players and content creators in Indonesia. He believes that by participating in this, they will be better equipped to become role models for the young Indonesians who look up to them.
“We understand that many streamers and content creators may be unaware of the seriousness of this issue. As such, MPL ID will launch a workshop for content creators to raise awareness about the importance of good behavior, professionalism, and being a role model for fans.”
Apart from organizing the workshop, he also stated that from now on, Moonton will impose penalties on anyone who violates their rules, particularly clubs and players under contract with the MPL ID franchise, both during and outside of the competitive season.
“We will also reinforce our regulations to ensure that all teams, players, and KOLs working with Moonton Games or MPL ID adhere to the highest standards of professionalism and our guidelines. Those who break our rules by encouraging illegal activities, such as online gambling, will be met with swift and severe punishment in the future.”
Moonton’s public statement represents the most recent in a series of preemptive measures taken to curb the proliferation of online gambling in Indonesia. This case had previously garnered the attention of the Indonesian Ministry of Communications and Informatics, which is collaborating with the authorities to combat online gambling.
