In an electrifying showdown against Myanmar’s unexpected underdogs, the Burmese Ghouls, during the upper bracket quarterfinals of M5 on Sunday (12/12), Geek Fam’s Filipino superstar substitute, Mark “Markyyy” Capacio, stole the spotlight as he played the role of a makeshift jungler. This impressive performance paved the way for Geek Fam’s advancement to the next round, setting the stage for an epic clash with MPL PH S12 champions, AP Bren, later that evening.
Before the showdown, Geek Fam faced a setback when their primary jungler, Manuel “Nnael” Simbolon, received a two-game ban for making disrespectful gestures towards Deus Vult players. Forced to shake things up, the Indonesian dark horse team called upon Valent “Aboy” Putra as a temporary replacement for Nnael. However, when facing Deus Vult, Markyyy stepped up unexpectedly, taking on the jungler role with remarkable prowess.
While the victory secured their ticket to the next stage, the celebration was put on hold as Geek Fam geared up for a faceoff against the formidable Filipino powerhouse, AP Bren, featuring the game-changing jungler, Michael “KyleTzy” Sayson.
With KyleTzy’s stellar performance this season, all eyes were on him as the most anticipated player in the M5 competition, even catching the attention of Markyyy. In a playful banter, Geek Fam’s flex player joked with Ulti Asia, suggesting that the only way to stop KyleTzy was through some unconventional methods.
“KyleTzy is a better jungler than me, and the only way to beat him is when we’re in the smoking area (hotel) and break his hands!” Markyyy jokingly remarked.
On a more serious note, Markyyy revealed that he actively sought advice from Nnael to enhance his jungling skills before the crucial match against BG. According to him, Nnael’s guidance played a crucial role in mastering jungle rotations and countering opponents’ jungle movements, instilling the confidence needed to commit to this pivotal position.
The Geek Fam vs. AP Bren match is predicted to be the most intense moment of the evening. Whoever lose this round will be doomed to face another tough challenge—Blacklist International—in the lower bracket quarterfinals.
