With The Game Awards 2022 approaching in just two weeks (8 December), the nominees for the coveted Game of the Year have been announced. There have been so many great games this year but which do we think will come out victorious? Here are our top three predictions in no particular order.
- God of War Ragnarök
God of War Ragnarök is going into The Game Awards with a dominant 10 nominations. This Playstation action-adventure game was only released earlier this month (9 November) but that did not stop it from making its mark on the gaming community and earning a place amongst the Game of the Year nominees.
As the fastest selling first-party game in Playstation history, it definitely is not unlikely that it could bring home the award; especially since its predecessor God of War won it in 2018.
- Elden Ring
Following God of War Ragnarök, Elden Ring has the second highest number of nominations going into the awards ceremony, with seven. Released in February, this action role-playing game has a MetaCritic score of 96.
With its immersive open world and challenging battles, it has been one of the favourites this year. So much so that it clinched Ultimate Game of the Year at the Golden Joystick Awards 2022. There is a high possibility that it could take home a similar award next month.
- A Plague Tale: Requiem
Unlike the first two games on this list that have big budgets and large studios behind them, A Plague Tale: Requiem is a smaller-budget indie action-adventure survival horror stealth game. Continuing the success from its predecessor A Plague Tale: Innocence, the sequel passed a million sales just two weeks after its release on 17 October.
Being an indie title does not lower its chances of winning Game of the Year either, since last year’s winner was another indie game — It Takes Two.
Now we just have to wait till 8 December to find out: Which of these three games will take home the win, or will it be one of the other nominees we did not include?
