Matthew “Whitemon” Filemon is continuing to show just what he is made of – undeniable talent – and has clinched the top spot in Dota 2’s Americas Leaderboard.
The 22-year-old is the first Indonesian – and Southeast Asian – player to achieve this in his first season. What makes it more impressive is that he plays Support.
Supports normally do not acquire many kills during games because the role focuses more on initiating teamfights and strengthening the team’s defence. Instead, Offlaners and Carry players tend to land the most kills and thus, climb the leaderboard faster. However, Whitemon has proven time and time again that he is capable of playing outside his role.
It is not surprising that he is an astonishingly great player though. After T1 disbanded at the end of last year, Whitemon was a popular man in the market – with many teams such as Talon Esports and TSM looking to sign him. Now, he is the first Indonesian player to compete in the pro Dota scene in the United States with TSM.
This achievement just further highlights the mark that he has made in his move to compete in the Americas.
Whitemon is still young and in the beginning stages of his career in that region but we have no doubt that he will continue to make Southeast Asia proud.
