Valve once again confused the Dota 2 esports fans with an inconsistent choice in which the outcomes of the most recent DPC ranking table failed to correspond to the point acquisition rules they had established.
The Dota 2 Pro Circuit 2023 (DPC 2023) rankings, which are critical for deciding teams’ eligibility for The International, appear to be hampered by substantial inconsistencies, with certain teams receiving inexplicable points following the completion of the group stage at The Bali Major 2023.
Valve unexpectedly handed 300 DPC points DPC points to Execration, Nouns, Bleed Esports and Blacklist International. These four teams were eliminated during the Group Stages of the current Bali Major 2023 and were not supposed to get any point. To put that into standpoint, only teams finishing in 7-8th place would earn 300 points.
Until now, Valve has not changed its DPC ranking on its website according to the latest results. This is most likely due to a bug in the system, which is affecting their DPC results. Valve have to fix it soon, considering Bali Major is the last and most important competition for the remaining teams to accumulate as many points as possible to advance to The International 12 this October.
This is not the first time Valve’s DPC rankings have been compromised. Prior to Bali Major, there were disagreements about point distributions and penalties, bringing the system’s accuracy and fairness into doubt. A few months ago, Dota 2 statistician, Ben “Noxville” Steenhuisen, pointed out that Valve’s DPC scores contained several irregularities and miscalculations.
