It’s a new record!
The Indonesian Dota 2 community has set a new high score. Rusman Hadi, aka Rusman, a prominent video game streamer, broke the record for the subathon watch hour and donations in Dota 2 category on Youtube.
Once regarded as one of Indonesia’s most promising carry players, Rusman has been involved in local Dota competitions since 2019. He has been playing in numerous teams, such as RRQ, The Prime, and M11. However, in the last year, he has devoted his time to do live streaming on his Youtube channel.
Rusman’s dedication to live streaming on his personal channel has paid off, thanks to his slapstick humor and sarcastic remarks. Slowly but steadily, he built a strong fanbase and racked up huge numbers on daily views. Unsatisfied with his accomplishment, he announced on his Instagram account that he wanted to try a subathon, starting on June 15, 2022.
Even though he admitted it was a fad, the subathon runs exceeded both his and the audience’s expectations. Although his livestreams were regularly hampered by technical difficulties, his games, which were occasionally accompanied by local pro players, have succeeded in garnering the attention of new audiences, even beyond Indonesia.
As of today, Rusman’s subathon has already entered its 181st. Furthermore, as of February 15, 2023, the total amount of donations made to his channel had reached around 1.1 billion Rupiah (65,750 USD). By far, this is the largest and longest running subathon achieved by a video game streamer in Indonesia and, possibly, Southeast Asia.
Following his remarkable achievement, Rusman has stated that he has no plans to finish the subathon anytime soon. He even expressed an interest in a challenge requested by his followers who want him to extend his subathon to a greather length: to reach a non-stop subathon until the beginning of 2024.
Apart from his daily schedule running the subathon, Rusman is listed as part of the WOLEP team, a newcomer Dota 2 team from Indonesia which is mostly filled with local Dota streamers. The WOLEP team nearly got their professional debut in the DPC SEA 2023 closed qualifier competition last December. But in the end they were disqualified due to failing to register their lineup on the deadline day.
Considering how well his subathon did, though, it won’t be surprising if Rusman decides to stop playing professionally altogether. Especially with the thousands of devoted followers who tune in every day for his raunchy humour and off-the-wall antics.
