OG, one of Europe’s finest Dota teams, is looking to Southeast Asia to expand its global presence, following the path taken by several international esports teams.
JMR Luna, CEO of OG, discussed his aspirations for expanding into the Southeast Asian market during a brief conversation on the official Yahoo Gaming SEA channel yesterday.
“Southeast Asia is extremely passionate about Dota. We’ve been trying to get in for a year and half, covid-19 delayed our plan, but it’s our key part for 2023 plan,” said Luna in the video.
Luna also intended to live in SEA in the near future. In addition, he’s looking forward to visit some countries to learn firsthand about the diversity and culture about people of SEA.
He believes this step is necessary in order to determine what types of content fans in SEA enjoy most and how to package these content for SEA viewers, who spend majority of their time on mobile devices. He planned to implement a business development strategy and assemble a content team for SEA-specific OG social media following that trip.
There’s no further talk regarding which country will become the operational headquarters of OG in SEA at the moment. There was conjecture that Singapore might be their destination but Luna once deemed Singapore as “too expensive” and expressed his desire to explore for more option in SEA.
It’s not the first time we heard a big western organisation has chosen SEA as their next business expansion. Team Secret and FaZe Clan were the first to stretch their legs, settling in Malaysia and Thailand, respectively. Both of them are still actively competing in the PUBGM tournament for SEA region.
