In a startling turn of events, a recent revelation within the South American gaming community on social media suggests that Boom Esports is contemplating a complete withdrawal from Dota 2 competition, just a fortnight after a significant revamp.
On November 13, the Indonesian esports veteran jolted the SEA region by announcing a departure and initiating a new venture in South America. They sealed the deal with a Peruvian stack featuring Christian “Pakasz” Savina, Jordan “Slatem$” Vega, Rafael “Sacred” Yonatan, Farith “Matthew” Puente, Romel “Mjz” Rojas, and head coach Igor “kaffs” Furtado Guimaraes.
With aspirations to secure a spot in the upcoming ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 through the SA Closed Qualifier, both management and fans were enthusiastic about this formidable lineup, known for its past dominance in the Dota 2 Pro Circuit South America. However, just three days later, the team suffered an untimely exit, failing to progress past the quarterfinals of the lower bracket against Keyd Stars, much to the disappointment of their supporters.
Moving on, the team received an invitation to participate in the Pinnacle: 25 Year Anniversary Show in the CIS region, hoping to reverse their downward trajectory. Unfortunately, Boom faced another disappointment during the group stage, exiting the competition this morning with zero points, the lowest in Group C. And according to a Peruvian creator, this defeat appears to be the tipping point for Boom’s Dota 2 lineup.
Per Pancho Justo’s report, Russian Dota 2 analyst Khaled “Sqreen” El-Khabbash initially leaked through a private Telegram channel that a Dota 2 team would disband merely two weeks after its announcement. He later revealed that the team in question was Boom Esports, expressing surprise at the team’s unexpected defeat in the tournament, given their strong draft tactics.
Shortly afterward, Justo reported that another pundit, Vladimir “Maelstrom” Kuzminov, posted an icon of Boom Esports on his Telegram account accompanied by the text ‘disband esports,’ further reinforcing speculations about the team’s dissolution.
As of now, Boom Esports has not issued an official statement addressing the swirling rumors about its lineup. Considering their current performance, however, a prompt overhaul seems a prudent move for the organization to avert further decline and maintain a positive mindset ahead of the upcoming competitive season.
