In a pivotal quarter-final clash of the ESL DreamLeague Season 22 South America Open Qualifier #1, Boom Esports emerged triumphant against Heroic in a best-of-one showdown earlier today (9/1). However, the sweet taste of victory was overshadowed by a heated exchange between players on both sides.
The competitive atmosphere was palpable as The Hungry Beast sought redemption against Heroic, who had relegated them to the lower bracket in the BetBoom Dacha Dubai 2024 Closed Qualifier NA & SA on the 8th. Adding fuel to the fire, the match was fueled by the rivalry between Peruvian players on the Boom squad and their Brazilian counterparts on Heroic.
Right from the early stages, Boom demonstrated disciplined aggression, applying relentless pressure on Heroic and denying them any opportunity for a counterattack. In a span of just 30 minutes, they secured over 20 kills, courtesy of the stellar performances by Jordan “Slatem$” Vega, Crhistian “Pakasz” Savina, and Mario “ILICH” Valdivia.
Boom Esports’ dominance appeared to incite frustration among some Heroic players, leading to emotional outbursts in the in-game chat. In the 37th minute, Heroic captain Matheus “KJ” Diniz was observed making a body-shaming remark directed at a Boom Esports player, provoking laughter from Boom support Jose “Panda” Hernandez.
Shortly thereafter, as Boom boys carried on with the assault, Pakasz responded with a taunt, labeling the Heroic players as “Brazilian pieces of [expletive].” Not to be outdone, Panda joined in with another comment from KJ just after Boom secured victory in the 40th minute.
As of now, neither Boom nor Heroic has issued a response to the fiery comments exchanged during the match. Nevertheless, the trash-talking moment has garnered significant attention from the Dota community in Brazil and Indonesia, who found entertainment not only in the intense team fights but also in the verbal sparring between the two teams.
