Tickets for the upcoming Dota 2 Bali Major could cost as much as US$1050 (10 million Rupiah), more than five times the average wage of a resident in Bali. Reports have also surfaced that there could just be 1000 seats in the arena for the finals of the last Major of the DPC tour this year.
The double whammy of the news have caused much uproar among the Indonesian fans of Dota 2, which is already losing traction among fans there, who overwhelmingly prefer Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.
The Dota 2 Pro Circuit competition’s final round for this season is scheduled to take place in Bali, Indonesia. Various potential venues such as Nusa Dua, Denpasar, and Jimbaran were initially considered, but it was ultimately decided that Ayana Resort in Jimbaran would host the Bali Major 2023.
The announcement of Bali as the host city was met with great anticipation by Indonesian Dota 2 fans, who were excited to have the Major competition in their home country. However, the recent leaks about the ticket prices and seating plans have somewhat dampened their enthusiasm.
Two days ago, information regarding the ticket prices and seating capacity for the Bali Major surfaced through the WxC Indonesia YouTube community, an official livestream broadcast channel for Dota 2 Major in Indonesia. According to the rumors, a regular three-day pass is expected to be priced at approximately 6 million Rupiah, equivalent to around 390 USD. Premium tickets are rumored to cost around 10.3 million Rupiah (around 690 USD), while VIP entry is rumored to be priced at 15 million Rupiah (approximately 1,050 USD). Additionally, the leak suggests that there will only be 1000 seats available in the venue.
These rumors have sparked a strong reaction within the Indonesian Dota community and among fans from other Southeast Asian countries. Many feel that the ticket prices and seating capacity do not align with similar events held in other regions, such as Europe and the United States, where tickets are often more affordable and venues offer larger capacities. Some have even compared the Bali Major ticket prices to those of The International, the most prestigious Dota 2 competition, held in Singapore last year.
As of now, WxG Indonesia has not yet commented on the pricing and seating rumors that have spread throughout the Dota 2 community. Speculation among fans suggests that the high ticket prices and limited seating capacity may be attributed to Ayana Resort’s status as a luxurious five-star resort and the chosen venue for the Bali Major competition.
