Boom Esports Wins DPC SEA Tour 2 Division 2 with Fantastic Clean Sheets Record

Boom Esports has officially returned to Division 1 Dota Pro Circuit Southeast Asia for Tour 3 which is scheduled for May 15. Following a startling drop in form in January, they shown tremendous progress and won the DPC SEA Tour 2 Division 2 competition.

About three months ago, Boom came under fire after losing their key players, Souliya “Jackky” Khoomphetsavong and Rolen Andrei “Skem” Gabriel, to their SEA competitors. Even though they brought highly rated players like Kenny “Xepher” Deo and Yap “Xnova” Jian Wei, the team failed to carry on their 2022’s form and were dropped into the division 2 after suffering consecutive defeats in the Division 1 last January.

Their performance continued to deteriorate when they participated in the BTS Pro Series 14 SEA Competition in February. They, however, decided to not make any lineup change in February and promised to go with new strategy in order to win the Division 2.

The team delivered. Throughout the Tour 2 competition, Boom Esports has been remarkable. Head coach Chai “Mushi” Yee Fung’s new tactics has proved to be highly effective, particularly during the 7.32e patch and the new 7.33 update. Xepher who was heavily criticized in the previous tournament showed drastic improvements and great flexibility with his new favorite, Muerta.

Thanks to their drastic improvements, Boom has achieved their best-ever performance in DPC SEA so far. This afternoon’s victory over UD Vessuwan in their final Tour 2 game has made the inconceivable a reality: 7 wins with total of 14-0, not losing a single map. The favorites in Division 2 such as Xerxia and Spawn were no match for Boom’s unwavering tenacity.

Bali Major on sight?

This incredible achievement is definitely the major morale boost which the team badly needed for the last tour of the DPC SEA 2023 Division 1 next month. With Bali as the venue of the final Major of this year, many pundits predicted that Boom Esports, as the only Indonesian team in the DPC SEA competition, would go all out in Division 1 to secure a spot in Bali Major. However, Mushi emphasized that his team still needs some improvements to come up with better results in division 1.

In response to a post match interview from this afternoon’s game of DPC SEA Tour 2 Div 2, Mushi noted that his team shouldn’t be satisfied with their victory because they would soon face greater opponents.

“I think with the way we’re playing right now, there’s still a lot of mistakes.” Mushi. “We looked strong as a team because we played against Division 2 teams. We should not be satisfied with it. We’ll face stronger teams in Division 1 and if we qualify for Bali Major, we will face stronger teams again. We have to keep improving.”
