It was there for the taking. EVOS had already beaten ALMGHTY and all RSG SG had to do was win Notorious Villains to secure an Upper Bracket finish in the inaugural MPL SG.
After last week’s crushing defeats to Impunity SG and Kingsmen, you would think a comeback was due for the pre-tournament favourites. Not a chance.
Instead, RSG SG were the architects of their own downfall as they lost 2-1 to Notorious Villains – who are making an inspired run in Singapore’s first Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) professional league. The loss meant RSG SG ended the regular season in 5th while Notorious Villains claimed 3rd. The top 4 make it to the Upper Bracket while the bottom 4 duke it out in the Lower Bracket.
“In the last game, they were too eager to end the game. That’s when we managed to come back as we were about to lose,” said Notorious Villain’s hyper Goh “TSUNAAAAA” Hao Ming, who complimented RSG SG on being “very, very strong team”.
RSG SG will now face cellar dwellers Forsaken in the Lower Bracket. Judging by the results of Weekends 3 and 4, don’t be surprised if Forsaken claim their first win of the tournament against the shell shocked giants on May 7, when the Playoffs start. Impunity SG and Explorer take each other on in the other Lower Bracket game.
Meanwhile, ALMGHTY and Notorious Villains will kick off the Upper Bracket on the same day against Kingsmen and EVOS SG respectively. All 4 teams have proven their mettle during the regular season but the real fight starts now. And the prize at stake: a S$100,000 (US$74,197) prize pool, of which S$30,000 goes to the winner.
A three-day slugfest on May 7, 8 and 9 awaits so be sure to tune in to MPL SG on Facebook!
