In surprising news, Team SMG revealed yesterday that they’ve broken up their Valorant Game Changers team. This team, known for its all-female roster, had been one of the most successful in Southeast Asia.
Between March and December 2023, the team achieved an impressive 35-win streak, setting a record among Game Changers teams. Their victories came from competitions like the Game Changers Apac Open series, Elite, and the first round of the Game Changers Championship in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Despite finishing fourth in the championship, it was a big comeback for the team after a tough 2022 season. SMG management had overhauled the team, keeping only Abigail “Kohaibi” Kong, which led to their domination in the APAC series.
Following the breakup announcement, the former Team SMG GC lineup, consisting of Kohaibi, Camille “Kamiyu” Enriquez, Alexandria “Alexy” Francisco, Kelly “Shirauzi” Jaudian, Ryona “Tarathiel” Tan, and Odella “enerii” Abraham, is now free to seek new opportunities. Shortly thereafter, Enerii mentioned that she and her teammates, except Kohaibi, plan to stick together and search for a new team.
At present, SMG has not made a statement on whether they plan to take a break from Valorant competition or leave it for good. On the other hand, it will be interesting to see which esports organizations will be willing to take in enerii and her friends and give them the opportunity to break new records before the new Game Changers competitive season begins.
