The most anticipated games of 2023

With 2022 coming to a close, it’s time to look ahead to everything 2023 will bring, including some highly-anticipated game releases. We have compiled a list of the top five most exciting releases due next year, plus a bonus entry. Let’s go!

  1. Hogwarts Legacy

Release date: February 10 

Starting off strong, we have Hogwarts Legacy. This is an all-new RPG set in the Harry Potter universe, set sometime in the 19th century. From developer Avalanche Software, this game is already generating considerable buzz months before its release, with the series creator J.K Rowling stirring up emotions ahead of the launch.

At its core, the game is really about living the world she created – from curses to trolls and even characters from the Potterverse, it’s a fantasy land for fans like none other.

  1. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

Release date: 17 March

Another universe, a long long time ago. The Star Wars universe is among the most cherished and the long-awaited sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is finally coming next year. From Respawn Entertainment, this follow-up is set five years after its predecessor Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Once again, protagonist Cal Kestis will clash against the Empire in his fight to survive. This game will include all-new fighting skills and lightsaber upgrades which are sure to stun fans.

  1. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom

Release date: 12 May

This latest instalment in The Legend of Zelda franchise is a sequel to 2017’s Breath of the Wild. While it was initially slated for a 2022 release, it was delayed to 2023. Come May next year, fans will finally get to revisit Hyrule.

  1. Street Fighter 6

Release date: June 2

When Street Fighter 6 comes out in June of next year, it will have two new playable characters. Developer Capcom has added Manon, a supermodel and world-champion judoka. The other new kid on the block is Italian jewellery designer Marisa. The game will also now include a Battle Hub for multiplayer fighting and a new campaign mode named World Tour.

  1. Diablo IV

Release date: June 6

Almost four years after its initial announcement, Diablo IV is finally on its way to release. From developer Blizzard Entertainment, this game is the fourth instalment in the Diablo saga and promises to be the most interesting yet. From necromancers to exciting new visuals, it’s safe to say that this release is going to be a big deal.

Bonus: Resident Evil 4 – Remake

Release date: 24 March 2023

Following the success of Resident Evil 2’s remake, Capcom is following up with reimagined Resident Evil 4. While the original came out in 2025, the remake has updated character biographies and promises to make use of upgraded CGI renders to amp up the survival horror that made the game so beloved.
