Exclusive: Is MPL ID a Farmer League? Fnatic Onic’s Kairi Responds to Viewers

On a historic June day in 2024, Fnatic Onic secured their fourth consecutive title in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Pro League Indonesia Season 13, becoming the first team in Moonton’s franchise history to achieve such a milestone. The spotlight was once again on Filipino prodigy Kairi “Kairi” Rayosdelsol, who stole the show and garnered praises from MPL ID viewers.

However, unlike the smooth sailing of Season 12, Season 13 had been a bumpy ride for Kairi and his squad. Opponents had deciphered their tactics, and Kairi initially struggled to adapt to the latest meta, impacting their regular season results.

During this period, Kairi’s signature assassin gameplay faltered, forcing him to rely on his teammates to seize even the smallest opportunities to turn matches around. But the young Filipino talent rose to the challenge, adapting his playstyle and helping his team through the early playoffs to a triumphant grand finale.

After the ultimate showdown (6/10), we caught up with Kairi, who shared his candid thoughts on the rollercoaster season. Acknowledging the fierce competition, he expressed concerns about the current meta’s impact on gameplay and hoped for a return to a high-risk, high-reward jungler playstyle in future update.

“MPL ID has been incredibly competitive,” Kairi said. “There were a lot of surprises because the current meta. But personally, I want to see something new in the next update. I want to play jungle like I used to.”

With their sixth overall title and fourth in a row, Fnatic Onic have now surpassed perennial powerhouse RRQ Hoshi as the team with the most championships in the franchise. This dominance has sparked some criticism from longtime viewers, who argue that Fnatic Onic has turned the Indonesian league into a ‘farmer league’. Kairi, however, dismissed such claims, emphasizing the increased competition and unexpected results throughout the season.

“I don’t think this season was easier,” Kairi contended. “As I said, this season has been competitive. Many surprises and teams figured out our strategies, so we had to be more creative. Very challenging.”

Going forward, Fnatic Onic will represent Indonesia at the Esports World Cup 2024 in Saudi Arabia, alongside surprise MPL ID S13 runners-up Evos Glory. With a big MLBB update on the horizon, Fnatic Onic are not resting on their laurels. They are gearing up to refine their strategies and thoroughly analyze their opponents in preparation for the global stage.
