In a surprising turn of events, RRQ Hoshi has parted ways with Filipino MLBB coach Vrendon “Vren” Pesebre, marking the end of his brief tenure with the Indonesian powerhouse after less than six months.
Through RRQ’s official YouTube channel, Vren bid farewell and expressed gratitude to fans for their support during tough times. He acknowledged that working with RRQ, given their prestigious history in Indonesia, was a big challenge and cited his role as a technical coach as the primary reason for his departure.
“The toughest part of working in a big organization such as RRQ is, of course, the high expectations from the fans,” Vren stated. “My departure from RRQ was because I have too much roles in the team. As you know, me and Zaya both are technical coaches and we do the drafting for the team. And so, upon the performance of our team, the management has decided to pursue further with Zaya.”
Looking ahead, Vren revealed his plans to pursue new opportunities in the next competitive season and expressed hope to participate in the upcoming M-series in Malaysia later this year. While he didn’t specify his next destination, it is likely he will return to the Philippines for a short break before planning his next move.
Biggest flop of the season?
Earlier this year, Vren’s arrival made waves in the Southeast Asian MLBB scene, especially after a successful season with The Hives in the Philippines, including victories in MPL PH Season 12 and the prestigious M5 World Championship in late 2023.
With the addition of hyped MPL PH talents such as Borris “Brusko” Parro and John “Irrad” Abarquez, MPL ID fans had high hopes that Vren would take RRQ Hoshi to new levels. And he started off really good by guiding RRQ to a top-four finish at the pre-season Games of the Future 2024 last February within a limited preparation time.
However, RRQ Hoshi’s pre-season momentum faltered, and they struggled during the MPL ID S13 regular season. Although the team made it to the playoffs, many fans questioned Vren’s impact, accusing him of not adequately supporting his players. The situation worsened as he embroiled in a feud with content creators in the Indonesian MLBB community, sparking a meme fest in the final weeks of the regular season.
