In a commanding display of dominance, Selangor Red Giants made history by clinching their first major Mobile Legends: Bang Bang trophy, defeating the reigning champions Homebois 4-2 in the grand finale of MLBB Pro Malaysia Season 13. In a heartfelt gesture of solidarity, they dedicated their victory to Selangor Football Club star Faisal Halim, who is currently undergoing intensive medical treatment following a shocking acid attack last month.
Prior to the grand finale, SRG had showcased exceptional consistency, losing only one game throughout the playoffs and maintaining an unblemished record during the regular season. In contrast, Homebois finished the regular season in second place but faced a heavy defeat against RSG Malaysia in the upper bracket semi-final. In the lower stage, they rebounded by defeating King Empire and exacted revenge against RSG MY in the lower bracket final to reach the ultimate showdown.
The grand finale kicked off with both teams starting strong in the early phase of the first game. Homebois gradually gained control, with their Indonesian import, Muhammad “Udil” Ardiansyah, dominating the mid-lane and creating opportunities for his teammates. Despite a valiant defensive effort by SRG, Homebois secured the first victory by the 21-minute mark.
However, SRG quickly retaliated in game 2, with Filipino import John “Innocent” Banal leading the charge to a swift victory in just 13 minutes and 19 seconds. They followed up with another commanding performance in game 3, this time in 13 minutes and 25 seconds.
In game 4, Homebois equalized with a resounding 20-4 victory, spearheaded by Muhammad Nazhan “Chibi” Nor on Roger. Undeterred, SRG responded with a dominant performance in game 5, winning in just 11 minutes to reach match point.
Riding on their momentum, SRG deployed Akai-X.Borg combo in the decisive game 6 to counter Homebois’ tanky composition. This strategic draft paid off, as SRG displayed superior composure and patience. Around the 20-minute mark, SRG capitalized on a decisive team fight to seal their historic victory.
As the champions of MPL MY Season 13, SRG takes home the grand prize of USD 25,000 and secures a ticket to their first MSC tournament at the Esports World Cup in Saudi Arabia this summer. Meanwhile, Homebois, finishing as runners-up, will advance to the MSC Wildcard for a final shot at joining SRG in the main event.
