The silence from the Dota 2 off season was broken yesterday when Valve and PGL revealed that they have banned 10 Dota 2 players from their events and tournaments.
These 10 players were caught engaging in account sharing and impersonating members of other teams, both of which are strictly prohibited in Valve tournaments. That is all we know for now but we should hear more from the individual players and their teams soon.
The bans mean that these players are no longer allowed to compete in any major Dota 2 leagues. The most prominent name on the list is Kamil “Koma`” Biktimirov. Koma` was only recently announced to be on Virtus.pro’s Dota 2 roster as their carry and now, his entire Dota 2 career is in jeopardy.
According to their tweet, Virtus.pro has launched an internal investigation into Koma` and we should expect to hear more from them soon about what they find.
The CEO of Virtus.pro has also condemned Koma`’s unethical behaviour.
No matter what the findings from the internal investigation are, Virtus.pro, and other esports teams with players on the list, need to find replacements before the start of the season. It is also uncertain if they would be penalised for changing their roster after the roster lock on 2 December 2022.
As much as we love to see success stories for each player, cheating should never be an option. These players are learning that the hard way and paying the price for it – permanently.
