Paper Rex has finally put an end to the transfer gossip with the signing of Global Esports Valorant’s ace, Cahya “Monyet” Nugraha, for the upcoming season. The 18-year-old will be joining the Singaporean team after a successful swap deal which involving one of their player, Benedict “Benkai” Tan.
About a week earlier, the youngster was heavily linked with PRX after numerous reports indicated that head coach Alexandre “alecks” Salle was eyeing a professional Valorant player from Southeast Asia who had a good competitive record. The team eventually settled on him as they felt that he is the only sensible option to replace Wang “Jinggg” Jing Jie, who left the team this month to join the national service.
His arrival at PRX definitely came as a surprise, considering he had to be redeemed through a special swap deal which involving one of their veteran players, Benkai. The 26-year-old Singaporean played a big part as an in-game leader during alecks’ first years as PRX head coach. However, following their lackluster 2022 campaign, he lost his spot in the regular team as alecks discovered the underdog Ilya “something” Petrov and super sub Patiphan “cgrs” Posri. This move to India could help him regain his confidence as one of the best IGL in Asia.
Monyet will be the third Indonesian player to play for PRX after Aaron “mindfreak” Leonheart and Jason “f0rsaken” Susanto. Seeing their recent achievements, there is a possibility that he will continue the trend of Indonesian performing exceptionally well on the squad, especially with his prior experience with Pacific competition.
The former Onic Esports prodigy has improved his game since joining GE in October 2022 and has established himself as a key member of the squad thanks to his flexibility and outstanding map awareness. According to VLR GG data, he was listed among the top four in the Pacific League and Last Chance Qualifier 2023 as a controller, earning praise from pundits for his outstanding individual performance. Unfortunately, it was not enough to help them achieve a respectable finish in both tournaments.
