Exclusive: Disappointment and New Leadership Propel Morph GPX to Success in PMPL ID 2023, Reveals Head Coach Adhim

Morph GPX, a prominent team in the PUBG Mobile Pro League Indonesia (PMPL ID) 2023 Fall, has made a triumphant comeback after a period of decline, according to their head coach Adhim. The recently concluded tournament witnessed unexpected twists and turns, with Morph GPX defying expectations and securing a spot among the top teams. By defeating formidable opponents like Boom Esports, Bigetron RV, RRQ, and Alter Ego, they demonstrated their resilience and claimed the second-place position, with only Persijavos surpassing their performance.

For Morph GPX, this achievement marks a significant milestone since their entry into the professional PUBG Mobile competition in early 2020. Previously regarded as the “next big thing” and a fierce competitor to Bigetron, the team faced internal and external challenges that hindered their success in the past couple of years. Disappointed fans voiced their concerns on social media, calling for a major change within the team. According to Coach Adhim, that disappointment transformed into motivation, fueling their exceptional performance this season.

Reflecting on the team’s history, Adhim explained, “I think Morph and GPX were both disappointed with their results last season (PMPL ID Spring). Especially when you look at their history in PMPL. Players like Cleon and Rocky clearly have some good record with their respective teams in the past, but both have struggled to replicate their performance prior to this season. These two eventually met after the merger, and their passions clearly affected our mindset.”

In addition to their renewed drive, Adhim praised the team’s new recruit, Rusli “Boboho” Jaya, who assumed the role of in-game leader. Having led Boom Esports to victory in the previous season, Boboho’s winning mentality and leadership qualities have had a profound impact on the squad. Adhim described him as a blessing, stating, “Boboho is a blessing to this team. When he joined us, it was clear that he still wanted to be a champion and motivated his friends to achieve it. I consider him a good leader because, for the first time, there is someone who can bring this squad together both inside and outside of the game. He constantly listens to his teammates, exactly like a family. It’s improving our teamwork.”

Notably, Coach Adhim himself became a highlighted personality of the season, as he took on the dual roles of coach/analyst and stand-in player during the PMPL ID Fall tournament. His experience playing alongside the team provided valuable insights, allowing him to develop their playing style in a short period. However, Adhim emphasized that the success of Morph GPX this season is primarily attributable to the hard work and dedication of his players.

“When I first joined the Morph GPX team, I focused on two things: daily scrims and team bonding. With a more intense tournament schedule, you’ll have to scrim with Indonesian and SEA teams regularly to understand your strengths and weaknesses. We typically scrim as much as three times every day, for a total of 12 hours. Aside from coaching and analyzing, I occasionally play together with the squad as a substitute to learn meta like drop rates, safe zones, and others,” Adhim explained.

Outside of gaming, the team engages in activities to foster camaraderie. Adhim shared, “On holiday, we look for activities outside the gaming house. No gaming activity; we usually hang out, go to the movies, or explore outside the city to get closer as a team. Alhamdulilah, there is Boboho who helps me with this social stuff.”

With their impressive performance in the PMPL ID Fall, Morph GPX and Coach Adhim are now gearing up for the upcoming PMSL SEA 2023 competition in Malaysia. Adhim expressed his excitement to participate in his first SEA tournament and meet renowned international teams that have inspired his professional PUBG Mobile career. He eagerly anticipates encountering favorites like Team Secret, Faze, and Vampire, expecting to witness diverse strategies in this highly competitive event.
