Legendary Pokémon are the literal face of the game (aside from Pikachu, of course). From box arts to movies, they are the proverbial and literal Gods of the Pokémon world.
But not all Pokémon are created equal, and to be frank some of them just plain suck. Here are the 3 most terrible Legendaries ever (Mythical Pokémon included)!
1. Type: Null
Type: Null is just, well, dull. Although heavily hyped up prior to its release and even given substantial in-game lore, the whole concept for the Silvally line as an artificial Arceus fell flat.
Firstly, as a pre-evolution to the rip-off Arceus, Type:Null suffers from weaker stats than its fully evolved form, where even the use of Evolite, barely places it within the PU tier under Smogon. Additionally, the fact that it requires friendship to evolve just makes it pale in comparison to the other Legendary synthetic Pokémon we know and love like Mewtwo and Genesect. With those simple reasons Type: Null lands itself a spot on the list. Sorry, Gladion.
2. Calyrex
The alleged ex-king of Galar is currently the last Pokémon in the Pokédex, as of writing this article, and is also one of the weirdest designs in the entire franchise. Although stacked with a whopping total base stat of 680 in his ice rider and shadow rider form, the concept of Calyrex riding on Glastrier and Spectrier is just a little too weird for my liking. I don’t want to sound like a genwunner, but it is what it is. On the bright side, Calyrex is a pretty big-brained Pokémon!
3. Cosmoem
If there was an award for the most useless Legendary Pokémon of all time, Cosmoem would win hands down. Literally described in the Pokédex in Sun as “motionless as if dead”, this Pokémon is a hardening Metapod on steroids. Did I also mention that it weighs 999.9kg? Talk about dead weight! While useless in battle, it redeems itself just a little by contributing to the storyline of Sun and Moon.
4. Bonus: Phione
Phione has long had its status as a Legendary Pokémon disputed. The Sea Drifter Pokémon is the only one in the entire series that can be bred from a Legendary Pokémon, Manaphy, although for some reason it is unable to evolve into Manaphy. Stranger yet, the official sources constantly contradict the label of Phione as a Legendary Pokémon, with the Pokémon 2011 Style Guide and the Pokémon Deluxe Essential Handbook for its status and the Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver: Prima’s Official Strategy Guide against it. With such ambiguous answers, Phione is one of the worst Legendaries simply because its status itself is constantly called into question.
