Just two weeks ago, Evos Esports announced that Bjorn “Zeys” Ong was still considered as part of Evos Legends for their plan ahead of 2023 competition. But in a shocking turn of event, Evos has officially stated that they decided to release him with some of Evos Legends old names altogether.
Evos Esports officially announced on Saturday that they will no longer be working with their veterans, which are Bajan, Vellion, Hyde, Clover, and Zeys.
Most Evos fans, though, have been alert to the possibility of his departure since the beginning of the year, especially in the middle of January when the M4 competition was in full swing. Zeys stated at that time at Gelora Bung Karno, Central Jakarta, that he was open to any offer to fill a coaching role in any MPL competition.
The suspicion regarding his status at Evos grew stronger when the Evos Legends analyst, Taxstump, was appointed as the head coach for the upcoming MPL Indonesia Season 12. Outside of MPL, Zeus currently holds the position of head coach for the Indonesian MLBB national team, which is being prepared for the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia in May.
There is no doubt that Zeys’ departure from Evos Esports has been met with widespread dismay from the team’s fan base at the moment. As the head coach of Evos Legends, he saw them through championship runs in the MPL Singapore and Indonesia.
In addition, his success at the 2019 M1 Championship and the IESF WEC 2022 in Bali has earned him the reputation as the only coach who has a firm grasp on the challenges posed by heavyweight names in international competition, especially teams from Philippines.
For now Zeys said that he will be focusing on the training programs for the Indonesian MLBB national team, which is expected to start at the end of March. Several sources close to us, however, claimed that there is a possibility that Zeys is considering a reunion with the former Evos Esports founder, Ivan Yeo, for the next season.
Should this happen then there are only two choices waiting for him in MPL SEA: joining Geek Slate or one of the RSG teams, both of which are sponsored by Avium.
