With just one more week left in the regular season of Singapore’s first Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) professional league, the question on everyone’s lips is: just who is the favourite to come out tops?
A betting man would not have been faulted if he had fancied RSG SG to be among the front runners to win the inaugural season of MPL SG.
But they had a nightmare of an outing in Weekend 3 of the regular season and are in danger of missing out on an upper bracket slot.
Despite being favourites, the RSG SG were stunned by Impunity SG and Kingsmen.
Prior to last weekend, RSG SG have enjoyed a good run in MPL SG, blowing away the competition in every match except for a single loss against fellow early favourites Evos SG. On the other hand, Impunity SG had zero wins prior to the match against RSG SG. On paper, it was obvious who would come out victorious. RSG SG had the experience, track record and skills to win, or so they thought.
Instead, RSG SG fell to a comprehensive 2-0 loss to Impunity SG and failed to bounce back in the Sunday match, again losing 2-0, this time to Kingsmen.
But as RSG SG falters, Kingsmen continue to shine. They have established themselves as a serious candidate for the title and lead the table with four points. The team are closely matched by Evos SG, who share the same win-loss record as Kingsmen, but are second by virtue of having lost to Kingsmen in their regular season match-up.
“We feel great but we ought to improve,” shared Kingsmen’s offlaner Lim Sheng “LuN.” who also added that the team will continue to do their best no matter the result.
To which, Evos SG’s tank Akihiro “.JPL” Furusawa cheekily added that “hopefully (Kingsmen) will get to keep their fans after the playoffs”.
April 24 is the last chance for teams to qualify for the upper brackets of the playoffs. With many more possible upsets in the works, be sure to catch the action live over the weekend.
