The MLBB CN server has officially launched, along with the official server’s pre-season invitational event held until 31 March. The 2024 MLBB CN Pre-Season Invitational Tournament is divided into two stages. The first stage features eight teams, including JDG, KBG, LL, MYG, Nova, XYG, MXG, and MAX, competing against each other. After completing the two stages, the top-ranked teams will advance to the Esports World Cup (EWC) China Qualification Tournament, which is in conjunction with the Mid-Season Cup (MSC).
With the official entry of the MLBB CN in China, Mike Chu, the Head of the MOONTON Games China region, stated, “We hope to create a stable competition system for domestic clubs quickly, establish competitive training opportunities for professional players, and bring the highest level of competition content for players who are looking forward to the launch and testing of MLBB CN in the short term.”
In regards to the participation by the MLBB CN from major esports teams, Mike Chu thanked all the esports clubs and players who joined the pre-season stage. He hopes that Chinese teams and players will achieve their potential on the MLBB global stage.
The China region has witnessed the rise of Nova Esports and KBG to the professional MLBB scene since last year. Nova won the championship title for the first-ever tournament held in China, which ended on March 3, while the latter earned a slot during the M5 World Championship Wild Card tournament, propelling them as China’s debutant at M5 in the Philippines.
As the first team to represent Team China to step onto the global stage of the MLBB event, Zhao Yuan, CEO of KBG said, “In the M5 Wild Card tournament, KBG experienced the intensity of the MLBB global competition and the enthusiastic atmosphere of the event. With the rapid development of Chinese esports in the MOBA domain, MLBB CN is one of the pioneering leaders. Among many Chinese teams, KBG is honored to join the MLBB global esports ecosystem as a domestic pioneer, and together promote and witness the launch and development of MLBB CN to exert a healthy and positive social influence.

SEA imports are coming
Even with its own competitive scene, the Chinese MLBB esports faces a big challenge on the global stage. Southeast Asian talent tends to dominate, making it tough for teams from China to keep up. To tackle this head-on, Chinese teams are making a bold move: they’re bringing in players from SEA to strengthen their squads before the preseason starts.
Leading the charge are two trailblazing Filipino players, Kiel “Kielvj” Cruzem and Tracy “National” Damasco. Their historic move marks the first time Filipino players will grace the arenas of the China region. Kielvj has found a new home under the banner of XYG, while National plays for KBG. Both of them were widely known during their stint in the Cambodian competitive scene last year.
But the influx of SEA talent doesn’t stop there. Du “Zxuan” Zhen Xiong, a seasoned veteran and renowned streamer, now emerges as a new force from Singapore within the China region, joining the prestigious Nova Esports. Zxuan’s reputation precedes him, having left an indelible mark on the MLBB scene in Singapore and Indonesia. His mastery of heroes like Fanny and his engaging streams garnered him a legion of fans before he stepped away to fulfill national service obligations from 2020 to 2022.
With MLBB’s meteoric rise in China, the influx of SEA players into its ranks seems inevitable. This migration promises to ignite a fierce and exhilarating competition as Southeast Asian stars clash with their Chinese counterparts. Indeed, with powerhouses like the Philippines and Indonesia dominating top-tier tournaments, the emergence of new talent from the SEA region adds a thrilling new dimension to the ever-evolving landscape of esports.
