Exclusive: Onic Esports Set Their Eyes on MPL PH S12 Contender

Onic Esports, one of Indonesia’s representatives in the forthcoming M5 in Philippines this December, has expressed excitement about the potential of facing heavyweights, with a number of key members of the squad looking forward to the opportunity of taking on one of the emerging Filipino teams.

This year, the M5 competition certainly holds a special significance, particularly for Paul “Denver” Yeb and Kairi “Kairi” Rayosdelsol. The event marks a heartwarming homecoming for these two players, as it provides an opportunity to demonstrate their improvements before a crowd of friends and family who have known them for a long time.

Speaking of homecoming, the ongoing MPL Philippines S12 certainly hasn’t slipped off their radar. For years, the region has consistently surprised spectators in any international competition, thanks to its highly competitive nature and their abundance of young talents. And members of Onic Esports recognize this quality in the sleeping giant of MPL PH, AP Bren.

In an interview with Ulti Asia following the conclusion of MPL ID S12 grand finals, Yeb spoke of AP Bren as a team that had captured his attention due to their player composition and the array of tactical strategies at their disposal. He voiced his hope that this team maintains its performance until the grand finals of MPL PH S12 and secures a spot in the M5 competition.

“The PH region team that has caught my interest this season is AP Bren. Maybe Echo or Blacklist, if they qualify. But I am confident that Bren will secure their spot this season because they boast a lineup that emphasizes rock-solid teamwork. Their players’ mechanical skills are exceptional, and their ambition is palpable, given their youth,” he remarked.

Kairi, an avid follower of MPL PH competitions, shared a similar perspective. “I believe that Echo still maintains its strength this season. Secondly, AP Bren has made noticeable improvements this season, and I firmly believe they deserve their spots in M5.”

Meanwhile, assistant coach Adi “Adi” Asyauri openly acknowledged that Echo and AP Bren are the two teams he’s keeping a watchful eye on this season. He praised both teams for their impressive discipline and versatile tactical approaches to win their matches in MPL PH S12. However, he admitted that he hasn’t yet formulated tactics to face them and has chosen to prioritize his players’ well-deserved rest while awaiting the outcome of MPL PH S12 this weekend.

The insights and predictions from Onic Esports members offer a compelling perspective, especially in light of Bren’s surprise victory over Blacklist International this afternoon, with a commanding 3-0 score. This triumph has propelled Bren into the grand finals, securing them a coveted slot in the M5 competition this coming December.

This moment marks a significant return for Bren, much to the delight of M Series fans who have missed their presence in the competition for the past two years. After claiming victory in M2 in Singapore in 2021, the team experienced a transition with the departure of key players and a period of inconsistency in MPL PH over several seasons, causing them to miss out on participation in M3 and M4 competitions.
