PGL Wallachia Surpasses ESL and BetBoom Dacha to Become the Most-Watched Dota 2 Event of 2024

Despite the numerous hiccups and dramas that marred the inaugural season of PGL Dota at Wallachia, which concluded just days ago, the tournament has emerged as the most viewed Dota 2 event of the season so far.

According to statistics from Esports Charts, PGL Wallachia achieved an impressive peak of 487,493 viewers, surpassing notable events like BetBoom Dacha and ESL One Birmingham, which themselves garnered substantial audiences. BetBoom Dacha peaked at 360,894 viewers, while ESL One Birmingham recorded a peak of 328,345 viewers.

Interestingly, this surge in viewership was primarily driven by matches featuring the Russian powerhouse, Team Spirit. After a prolonged slump following their victory at The International 12 last year, Team Spirit finally broke this negative trend, clinching their first major title in 2024.

The grand finale of PGL Wallachia was a thrilling spectacle, with Team Spirit facing off against Xtreme Gaming. Xtreme Gaming, undefeated until the final showdown, topped the group stage with a 3-0 record and continued their streak with flawless victories in every playoff series. They sent Team Spirit to the lower bracket along the way.

Undeterred, Team Spirit displayed remarkable resilience, clawing their way up from the lower bracket. They triumphed over fan favorites Team Falcons in the lower bracket final, earning a rematch with Xtreme Gaming. In a gripping contest, Team Spirit ultimately secured a dramatic 3-2 victory.

Looking ahead, PGL has ambitious plans for more Dota 2 events throughout the season. Following Wallachia 2024, the organizer will host seven more events across 2024-25 on the following dates:

  • 2024 PGL DOTA 2 Wallachia Season #2: October 1-13 | Qualifiers: August 9-17
  • 2025 PGL Tournament #1: March 6-15 | Qualifiers: January 5-12
  • 2025 PGL Tournament #2: April 18-27 | Qualifiers: February 1-8
  • 2025 PGL Tournament #3: November 10-23 | Qualifiers: September 21-28
  • 2026 PGL Tournament #1: March 6-15 | Qualifiers: January 4-11
  • 2026 PGL Tournament #2: April 17-26 | Qualifiers: March 22-29
  • 2026 PGL Tournament #3: November 6-15 | Qualifiers: September 27 – October 4

With these upcoming events, the Dota 2 community can look forward to more exciting competitions and high-stakes action from PGL.
